Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB Bank) has launched its Hajj Account in Tamale following the initial launch of the same initiative in Accra on 5 September 2025, with aim of helping Muslims embark on the Holy Journey to Mecca with ease, eliminating the financial barriers.
The Hajj Account launched by GCB, is a specialized savings account designed to meet financial needs of Muslims who plan to travel for the annual Holy pilgrimage.
This innovative idea introduced by the Bank, is further tailored to provide convenience and security for prospective pilgrims, enabling them to save funds over time into the dedicated account, as financial preparations towards the journey.
In his opening remarks Mr Sennah Kamagate, Head of Retail Marketing of GCB, said the bank initiated this idea to liberate Muslim ummah from the financial struggle, frustration, and harrowing experience pilgrims go through often caused by some Hajj Agents, who fail to deliver on their mandate promised the pilgrims in providing them the essential services as required by the pilgrimage.
Meanwhile, he also urged depositors who started doing business with the bank through the Hajj account to serve as ambassadors for the glorious initiative in support for every Muslim to carry out his/her Hajj mandate.
In a key note address by chief of Hausa Zongo and founder of Ahlu Bayt Shia Community in Northern Region, Sheehu Abdul Mumin Dalhu, also highlighted the innovative initiative taken by GCB to empower Muslims to plan adequately towards performance of Hajj, entreating every Muslim to open an account with GCB to enable them fulfil one of the key pillars in Islam, which is Hajj.
Sheikh Husein Afa Jarijaa, a member of the Ambariya Sunni community, also cautioned the leadership of the GCB to adhere to due process and consider the laws and teachings of Islam while executing their mandate, admonishing them to prohibit the act of profit mindedness in order not to defeat the true purpose of opening the Hajj account.
On his part, Head of Sales and Distributions of GCB, Alhaji Gomda, outlined the benefits associated with owning GCB Hajj account, explaining that the Bank guarantees financial security, ensuring funds are safe to facilitate the process of Hajj for prospective pilgrims.
Alhaj Gomda also stressed that GCB Hajj Account provides a disciplined and structured savings plan with flexible deposit options starting from as little as GHS50.00.Therefore, appeals to customers of the Bank especially the Muslims to grab the opportunity.
The program courted the presence of prominent Islamic Scholars in the Northern Region, Regional chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Salam Ahmed, Sheikh Hussein Jarijaa, Member of Ambariya Sunni Community, Sheehu Abdul Mumin, Leader of Shia Sunni Community, and Leadership of GCB Bank, among others.
