Essence of Unity within NPP – Abdul Jalil Opele Writes

THE NPP MUST ESTABLISH A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD AND ENSURE FAIRNESS TO ANCHORING PARTY UNITY AND COHESION.

Since we have ended our internal Presidential primary successfully, it’s essential to chart a path of unity and cohesion for a quick comeback to power in 2028.

As we all know many had reservations about the successful conduct of the January 31 Flagbearer race but it ended with great excitement.

As the President of Northern NPP Concerned Youth Group, I was highly elated about the turn of events with the collective spirit of Party faithful.

This demonstrated our Party’s resolve to journey on a path of positivity despite our individual differences and preferences.

In fact, no political Party has ever won power with a disunited front after its internal democratic electoral process.

The fact of the matter is that, we have a tough hurdle ahead of us to defeat the NDC and the only antidote is for us to prioritize unity and peaceful coexistence.

To delve into the real substance of this piece, unity, fairness and acceptance of divergent views will go a long way to unite us in our rebuilding process.

Still on the rebuilding and reorganization process, I would like to add my voice to the need for the Party’s top hierarchy to continue to showcase fairness in the polling station executives, Electoral Areas, Consistency, Regional, and National elections.

After the successful election of our Flagbearer, what lies ahead is choosing the right caliber of committed people who will be to the benefit of our Party.

On the Party people who are showing interest particularly in the Constituency Executives, Regional Executives, and National Executives.

The actions of the Party’s leadership on the above should be open and anchored on fairness and transparency to cure the misconception of unnecessary disqualifications in all Constituencies, Regionals, and at the National level.

For emphasis, once a level field is provided for all Party faithful in good standing to take will help to ensure unity and cohesion.

Instructively, we have been here before and it is incumbent on us not to repeat the past mistakes of unnecessary disqualifications and denial of people the opportunity to contest.

Importantly, the leadership of the Party must exercise caution and take useful lessons in the conduct of the Party’s continuous reorganization process.

A moment of reflection is here and we must collectively seek to move forward in unison for quick recovery to bounce back with victory in 2028.

In summary, the points raised above must be taken into consideration to propel our Party to greater heights with a victory for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Party.

Nobisco Area: Fears grip residents following death of student after fell off from uncompleted footbridge

Published Inusah Dondaliya

8th February, 2026

Fears gripped the entire residents living around Nobisco enclave in the Tamale North Constituency following the death of a student after she fell off from uncompleted footbridge in the area while she was transported on a Motor Bike.

This incident occurred on Thursday, 5th January 2026, when the guardian picked the deceased and her sibling from school but fell off into the drain when crossing the footbridge – a makeshift, improvised by the residents themselves for easy passage.

Residents attribute their worsening condition in terms of commuting purposes, to the current state of the drain, which has been left uncompleted for almost a year now, resulting to several fatalities including injuries, deaths among others.

They put the blame squarely on the contractor for failing to complete the drain project he initiated. Worst of it all, without any effort on his part to come back to site for full execution of the project.

Residents further claim that several attempts to reach authorities for an antidote to their woes have proven futile, compounding their transportation challenges especially connecting to other communities.

Despite throwing their hands in despair, the residents are focusing their appeal to the Member of Parliament of the area, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, who is now the deputy Minister of Roads and Highways to come their aid by facilitating efforts to complete the project.

The residents are of the view that their plight now cannot be ameliorated without an intervention by their MP, since he is now serving as a deputy minister in charge of roads and highWays.

They are therefore calling for an immediate support to improve livelihoods through their mobility.
