Marta to retire from international football this year..

Brazil legend Marta says she will retire from international football this year.
The 38-year-old striker is Brazil’s all-time record goalscorer in international football, with 123 goals in 196 appearances.

Marta could make her sixth appearance at an Olympic Games if she is selected for Brazil’s squad this summer in Paris.

“If I go to the Olympics, I will enjoy every moment, because, regardless of whether I go to the Olympics or not, this is my last year with the national team,” she told CNN in Brazil.

“There will be no more Marta from 2025 in the national team as an athlete.”

She won Olympic silver at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, losing to the United States on both occasions.

Marta is the all-time leading goal-scorer in World Cups, men’s and women’s, scoring 17 times in 23 appearances across six editions of the tournament.

She came closest to World Cup glory in 2007 when Brazil finished runners-up to Germany.

After Brazil failed to reach the knockout stage at last summer’s World Cup, she said “there is no more World Cup for Marta”.

Marta, who has played club football for Orlando Pride since 2017, said she feels comfortable passing the baton to Brazil’s next generation of footballers.

“We have a really qualified team with really talented girls who, as the years go by, you will see what I’m talking about,” she said.

“Because of this I feel very comfortable saying: ‘Listen, I’m passing on to you, I’m going to pass on the baton and you continue to carry on this legacy.'”

By SAIBU TERRY.

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has presented a GH¢10 million dividend to the Government of Ghana, marking the Authority’s return to contributing directly to the Consolidated Fund.

The cheque was presented by the NLA Board and Management to the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, with Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam leading t8he Authority’s delegation.

The payment represents the NLA’s first dividend contribution to the state since 2017, according to reports on the presentation.

Dr. Ato Forson welcomed the development but stressed that the contribution should not be treated as a symbolic gesture. He called for sustained efforts by the NLA to improve its revenue generation and deliver greater financial value to the state.

The Finance Minister further disclosed that the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the NLA and the Attorney-General, is reviewing existing revenue-sharing agreements involving the Authority. According to him, the review is intended to address arrangements that may have limited the revenue accruing to government.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam said the dividend reflects the Authority’s renewed focus on efficiency, transparency and revenue generation.

He said the NLA would continue working to strengthen its operations and contribute meaningfully to national development through its statutory mandate.

The GH¢10 million payment is therefore being positioned as part of broader efforts to improve the NLA’s financial performance and strengthen its contribution to Ghana’s public finances.

The NLA has also urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters and scammers who may seek to exploit the Authority’s name for fraudulent activities.
