MP for Yendi Constituency, Farouk Aliu Mahama has finally apologized over violence incident that characterized NPP Parliamentary Elections in Yendi for which he was involved and allegedly assaulted Citi news’ reporter, Mohammed Amin Alabira.
The Yendi MP, rendered the apology following a fruitful meeting with Ministry Information led by Fatima Abubakari together with the Ghana Journalists Association Chairman, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour on Tuesday, 7th May 2024.
GJA announced total media black on Honorable Farouk Mahama following the Assault on the journalist which gained attention through traditional media and the new media.
Honorable Farouk Mahama’s action was widely condemned by many for irresponsible character shown during the NPP Parliamentary primaries held in Yendi.
However, upon reflecting through his action, the MP has by and large expressed regrets over the incident and issued an apology to Management and staff of Citi Fm/Tv for his action towards the journalist.
In a press statemens issued today, the MP expressed the following statements below
“I write to express my sincere regret over the incident that occurred at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries in Yendi”.The attack on individuals, including yourcorrespondent, was deeply regrettable and unfortunate”.
“I have always been a proponent of a peaceful and constructive political environment, and I unequivocally condemn any form of violence, especially against the media. Throughout my life, I have upheld the belief that violence or anything close to it has no place in our society”.
“I believe in media freedom and I recognized the crucial role that the media plays in our
democratic society, and on behalf of my constituents, I offer my unreserved apology to your staff and management. I am committed to working towards a new chapter in our relationship”.
