Former Chief Executive Officer of Real Tamale United (RTU), Zakaria Safianu, has urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to become more proactive in global football governance, criticizing what he describes as the organization’s silence over FIFA’s reported proposal to sell a 20 percent stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.

In a Facebook post, Safianu argued that CAF, which represents 54 member associations and is the world’s second-largest continental football governing body, should publicly state its position on significant reforms that could shape the future of the global game.

According to him, CAF’s lack of a clear public response during discussions surrounding the reported proposal is “deeply regrettable” and raises concerns about Africa’s influence in major football decision-making.

Safianu maintained that, for the sake of transparency and the future governance of world football, CAF’s leadership should communicate its stance on major structural issues instead of remaining silent.

He further called on African football administrators to adopt a more assertive approach in international football politics, arguing that the continent must actively participate in defining the future direction of the sport.

“We can no longer bury our heads in the sand if we want to produce a FIFA president from Africa,” he wrote, suggesting that stronger engagement in global football governance is essential for Africa’s leadership ambitions within FIFA.

The comments reflect Safianu’s personal views and come amid ongoing international discussions about the future commercial structure of global football. Neither CAF nor FIFA has publicly responded to his remarks.

Former Chief Executive Officer of Real Tamale United (RTU), Mr. Zakaria Safianu, popularly known as Coach Sof, has officially bid farewell to the club following the conclusion of his tenure on August 1, expressing gratitude to the club’s leadership, players, staff, supporters, and stakeholders for their unwavering support during his time in office.

In a heartfelt statement of appreciation, Mr. Safianu thanked the Board Chairman and the Patron of the club for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading one of Ghana’s most historic football clubs.

Reflecting on his time at RTU, he described it as a privilege to have worked with a dedicated group of players and staff who remained committed to the club’s growth both on and off the field.

“It was a true honour to lead this talented group. We built a strong team based on hard work, respect, and high standards. Every single staff member gave their all to help the club grow. I leave knowing the foundations are set for massive future success,” he stated.

Mr. Safianu also reserved special appreciation for the club’s supporters and stakeholders, acknowledging their unwavering loyalty throughout his tenure.

He praised the RTU faithful for standing firmly behind the team during both victories and difficult moments, describing them as the true custodians of the club’s rich heritage.

“Thank you for your fierce passion, loyalty, and noise on every matchday. We shared great wins, tough losses, and unforgettable moments together. You are the true owners of this historic club. Keep pushing the team forward with your unconditional support,” he said.

Although stepping down from his role, the former CEO emphasized that his affection for the club remains undiminished. He expressed optimism about RTU’s future and wished the owners, management, and incoming leadership every success as they continue the club’s journey.

“My time here has ended, but my love for this club will remain forever. I wish the owners, management, and incoming leadership the absolute best. May the upcoming seasons bring the trophies our supporters deserve,” he noted.

Concluding his farewell message, Mr. Safianu said he is ready to embrace a new challenge, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another in his football administration career.

His departure closes an important chapter in the recent history of Real Tamale United, with supporters expected to closely follow the club’s next steps under new leadership.

Former Tamale Great Eagles FC player, Alhassan Wakaso, has demonstrated his continued commitment to his boyhood club by donating football equipment to support the team’s activities.

The donation, which comprised two sets of jerseys and two sets of Stockings, were presented on Wakaso’s behalf by his elder brother, Bobby Rahaman, during the club’s training session at Kalandan Park in Tamale.

Receiving the items on behalf of Tamale Great Eagles FC were Sheikh Ahmed Tijani (Afa Tijani), a member of the club’s management team, and Sayibu Abdul-Nasir, a representative of the club’s Old Players Union.

Speaking during the presentation, Sheikh Ahmed Tijani expressed the club’s profound appreciation to Alhassan Wakaso for the generous gesture. He noted that the donation would significantly support the team’s preparations and motivate the players.

He also wished Wakaso continued success in his football career, praying that he remains healthy and achieves greater heights both on and off the field.

The donation reflects Alhassan Wakaso’s enduring bond with Tamale Great Eagles FC and his desire to give back to the club that played an important role in his football development.
