The Northern Regional Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by its Communications Officer, Mohammed Sulemana, has handed over six brand-new motorbikes to selected communicators of the party in the region.

The six motorbikes were funded by Joyce Bawah Mugtar, Special Aide to the President, and released to the Regional Communications Bureau for distribution to selected party communicators, including serial callers and social media communicators.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing the beneficiaries’ operations and mobility as they communicate the achievements and programmes of the government.

At a short ceremony held on September 12, 2026, in Tamale, the Regional Communications Officer, together with his Deputy, officially handed over the motorbikes to the beneficiaries.

The motorbikes comprise three Combian bikes and three Dash 5 motorbikes.

The beneficiaries include Alhassan Aminu, Deputy Communication Officer for the Sagnarigu Constituency; I.K. Seini, a member of the NDC Regional Communications Team; and Ahmed Abdul-Rauf, popularly known as Rauf Mobila, a long-serving NDC social media communicator from the Tamale Central Constituency.

The other beneficiaries are Madam Salima Chelpang, a social media communicator from the Bimbilla Constituency; Adam Abdul-Fataw Kpanashe, a serial caller; and Mr. Wumbei of the Tamale South Constituency, a popular NDC activist.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the leadership of the Communications Team for selecting them from a pool of communicators in recognition of their work and sacrifices for the party.

On behalf of the Communications Team, the Regional Communications Officer also expressed gratitude to Madam Joyce Bawah Mugtar for her remarkable gesture, which he said would help boost the operations of communicators in the Northern Region.

Gushegu Constituency Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Kanayo Abdul Gafaru Seidu-Dambu, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC.

Mr. Kanayo says his decision is driven by a desire to strengthen the party’s youth wing, promote unity and empower young people across the Northern Region.

Declaring his intention to contest, Kanayo AbdulGafaru Seidu-Dambu described his bid as a call to service rather than personal ambition.

He said his years of active participation in the NDC, coupled with grassroots engagement and leadership experience, have equipped him with the skills needed to lead the party’s youth wing at the regional level.

Kanayo has served the party in various capacities, including as a serial caller of the NDC, Branch Secretary of Gushegu M/A JHS, TEIN Treasurer, Vice President and President at Tamale Polytechnic.

He has also served as Constituency Director of Elections for Gushegu, a member of the NDC Northern Regional Communications Team, Constituency Youth Organizer for Gushegu, and Spokesperson for the Northern Region Constituency Youth Organizers Caucus.

He says these positions have provided him with practical experience in grassroots organization, political communication, electoral administration and youth mobilization.

According to Kanayo, his vision is to build a stronger, united, vibrant and empowered youth wing capable of actively contributing to the growth and electoral fortunes of the NDC.

He says, if given the mandate, he will prioritize listening to the concerns of young people, strengthening grassroots structures, promoting unity and creating opportunities for youth participation in the affairs of the party.

Kanayo is therefore appealing to delegates across the Northern Region to support his bid as he seeks to lead the regional youth wing.

‎The Municipal Chief Executive of Yendi Hon. Muniru Sugri, has rejected allegations by former Yendi Member of Parliament, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, that genuine beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in Yendi have been removed and replaced with supporters of the governing party.

‎In a statement responding to the claims, the MCE said neither Members of Parliament nor Municipal Chief Executives have the authority to select, remove or replace LEAP beneficiaries.

‎According to the statement, beneficiary households are identified through the Ghana National Household Registry using a proxy-means test. The process is then subjected to screening by Community LEAP Implementation Committees comprising a community focal person, a teacher, a health worker and a civil society representative.

‎It stressed that “no politician sits at that table, and no politician can add or delete a name.”

‎Government explained that the changes to the LEAP beneficiary list in Yendi form part of a nationwide reassessment of beneficiary households being undertaken by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

‎The exercise, it said, is intended to determine whether existing beneficiaries still meet the programme’s eligibility requirements while creating room for households that have been waiting to be enrolled.

‎According to government, beneficiaries may exit the programme for several reasons, including death, relocation, children reaching the age limit, improvement in household circumstances, or failure to verify records.

‎It maintained that the reassessment is taking place across the country and is not limited to Yendi or influenced by political considerations.
‎
‎Government also pointed to its stated plan to expand the LEAP programme, with a national target of 400,000 beneficiary households this year, arguing that the policy direction is one of expansion rather than reduction.

‎Residents of Yendi who believe they have been wrongly removed from the programme have been encouraged to report their concerns to the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Yendi Municipal Assembly.

‎The statement said a grievance and appeals mechanism is available and pledged that the concerns of affected residents would be followed up irrespective of their political affiliation.

‎Government has also challenged anyone with evidence that beneficiaries were removed or replaced for political reasons to provide specific details, including the names involved, communities and dates.

‎It said such evidence would be submitted to the Ministry for investigation and expressed support for an independent audit of the Yendi LEAP beneficiary list.
‎
‎The statement cautioned against making unsubstantiated allegations, arguing that such claims could create unnecessary fear among vulnerable people who depend on LEAP support.
‎
‎It concluded by stressing that poverty should not be politicised and that the government’s responsibility to vulnerable residents of Yendi applies regardless of political affiliation.
