NPP ACCUSE NDC OF DEFACING CAMPAIGN POSTERS, BANNERS OF TAMALE SOUTH PC

NPP in Tamale South Constituency have accused the NDC of deliberately removing and defacing the campaign posters, and banners of the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, ALHAJI FUSEINI MUSAH.

According to the NPP, campaign posters and banners belonging to their PC and Flagbearer at the Lashegu roundabout and along Tamale Teaching Hospital Road have been defaced by NDC apparatchiks in the Constituency.

The NPP further described the action of the NDC as ‘repugnant and distasteful’, questioning why their PC’s posters would be removed while his opponent Hon. Haruna Iddrisu’s would be left untouched.

NPP claims the defacing of the banners took place on Tuesday, 16th July 2024 during the celebration of the 2024 Fire(Bugum) Festival by some faceless people believed to be loyalists of the former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

At a press conference at the Party Office in Tamale South, Abdulai Abdul-Razak the constituency Communications Director of NPP accused the NDC leadership of orchestrating the defacing of the campaign posters and banners by the PC and the flagbearer having realized that the PC had executed numerous projects in the constituency to serve as a threat to the incumbent MP.

Abdulai Abdul-Razak also calls on the Ghana Police Service to look into the matter for an amicable resolution to prevent future occurrences of this nature.

Below is the Press Statement read by the Constituency Communications Director of NPP in Tamale South.

NPP IN TAMALE SOUTH CONSTITUENCY CONDEMNS THE DELIBERATE REMOVAL AND DEFACING OF ALHAJI FUSEINI MUSAH AND H.E ALHAJI DR. MAHAMUDU BAWUMIA’S CAMPAIGN POSTERS AND BANNERS.

The attention of the leadership of NPP in the Tamale South Constituency has been drawn to the deliberate removal and defacing of the banners and posters of our workaholic Parliamentary Candidate, Alhaji Fuseini Musah, and the indefatigable Flagbearer, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

This unfortunate and distasteful incident occurred on the night of the celebration of the Bugum (Fire) Festival by the good people of the Northern Region, precisely Tamale South Constituency.

Under normal circumstances, we expected the people to carry themselves maturely but some irresponsible characters engaged themselves in this shameful act by defacing our Presidential Candidate and Parliamentary Candidate campaign posters and banners completely at the Lamashegu Road and Tamale Teaching Hospital Road.

Strangely, the posters and banners of Honourable Haruna Iddrisu were not touched when we visited the scene to ascertain the level of destruction and defacement being done. Indeed, this is highly repugnant and unreasonable for a group of people to destroy and remove the campaign posters and banners of our Parliamentary Candidate and Presidential candidate with impunity and without regard to the laws governing the electoral process in the Country.

For the avoidance of doubt, we have taken this despicable act as a deliberate attempt by an unscrupulous group of people within the NDC whose agenda is to cause mayhem and confusion. We believe this is strongly motivated by the NDC leadership for the heat and pressure being mounted, especially with the great works of Alhaji Fuseini Musah in the Constituency.

Instructively, we have come a long way as a Nation and Ghana is described as the beacon of our democratic values and principles. However, this act if not checked could undermine the frontiers of our democratic values and principles, especially in the Tamale South Constituency.

In addition, per the Political Parties laws of Ghana, it is a punishable offense for an individual or group of people to destroy, remove, and deface the banners and posters of any political Party in the Country.

Again, as stated, “a person is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding 200 penalty units or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months,”. This should serve as a guide for those who engaged in that unfortunate act of the removal and defacing of the posters and banners of our Parliamentary Candidate and Flagbearer.

In conclusion, we vehemently and unreservedly condemn this undemocratic act and the NDC hooligans who were involved and we entreat them to desist from such irresponsible acts to help strengthen the frontiers of our democratic values. We appeal to the leadership of NDC to call their members to order and we equally call on the Ghana Police Service to look into the matter for an amicable resolution to prevent future occurrences of this nature.
