Ablekuma North violence: PPI-Ghana calls on President to set up an Independent Commission to probe incident

PPI-Ghana, a civil Society Organization in Ghana has condemned the violent incidents that occurred during the rerun of the election in 19 Polling Stations in Ablekuma North Constituency, suggesting that the integrity of Ghana’s democratic system has been deeply bruised following the incident.

In a press release today, Saturday, 12th July 2025, by AG Pubic Affairs Director of PPI-Ghana, Nana Yaa Afratima Peprah, expressed shock that the incident unfolded in the eyes of Police Personnel who looked on without making any arrest, chiding the President, for his deafening silence on the incident since its occurrence.

The group further called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately set up an Independent Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violence and bring the perpetrators whom they describe as ‘terrorists’ to order.

“It is shocking that these atrocities occurred right in front of police personnel and no arrest has so far been made. It is even heartbreaking that, the president of the Republic has so far remained silent on the subject. PPI-Ghana calls on His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, to immediately set up an Independent Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violence and bring the terrorists to order”.

Meanwhile, the statement also noted that the incident is not only about justice but a test for the president to safeguard Ghana’s peaceful and democratic heritage.

Yesterday, Viral videos surfaced on Social Media showing individuals believed to be pro-NDC thugs violently attacking members and officials of the opposition NPP during the rerun of the Ablekuma North Constituency elections organized by the electoral commission.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE VIOLENCE AT ABLEKUMA NORTH CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS RE-RUN.

PPI-Ghana is deeply alarmed by the terror and disruptions that occurred during the Ablekuma North constituency Elections re-run on 11th July, 2025.

Viral videos on the election day showed individuals believed to be pro-NDC thugs violently attacking members and officials of the opposition NPP.

The integrity of Ghana’s democratic system has been deeply bruised by this sad occurrence.

Shockingly, these atrocities occurred right in front of police personnel and no arrests have so far been made.

It is even heartbreaking that, the president of the Republic has so far remained silent on the subject.

PPI-Ghana calls on His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, to immediately set up an Independent Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violence and bring the terrorists to order.

This is not merely a matter of justice—it is a critical test of the resolve of the president to safeguard Ghana’s peaceful and democratic heritage.

George Afriyie backs Black Stars to seek redemption against Comoros.

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, believes the Black Stars’ technical team will be highly motivated to settle old scores when Ghana faces Comoros in the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The crucial encounter is set for Sunday, October 12, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Ghana will aim to cap off their qualification campaign on a high note.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Afriyie voiced his confidence in the team’s determination to make amends.

“I am 100% sure that the technical team will go for revenge against Comoros,” he stated.
