Former President Nana Akufo Addo has heaped praises on the late Mion Lana, Abdullai III, and Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani for playing an indispensable role in restoring peace to Dagbon following the performance of funeral rites of late Kings, Ya-Na Mahamadu Abdulai and Ya-Na Yakubu Andani.
In a Facebook post, the former president underscored the prevailing understanding between the key two individuals, which culminated in peace and lasting reconciliation for Dagbon after they heeded his advice under special circumstances.
‘‘Mion Lana Abdulai III and his brother, Yoo Naa Yakubu Andani, were indispensable to solving the Dagbon crises. It was their understanding of what was necessary to be done to bring peace and lasting reconciliation in Dagbon that made the settlement possible. They accepted my advice that those special circumstances warranted a special solution which was to allow the then Savelugu Naa to come to Yendi as Ya Na Mahama Abukari II and I will always, with fondness and affection, remain grateful to him, and his brother, for helping me to bring the peace to Dagbon”.
Nana-Addo made these statements when he and the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the company of former government officials joined the Chiefs and people of Dagbon to perform the final funeral rites of the late Mion Lana, Abdullai III, at Sambu (Mion) on Thursday, 29th May 2025.
“On Thursday and Friday, 29th and 30th May 2025, I, in the company of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and some officials of the last administration, joined the distinguished Chiefs and people of Dagbon to perform the final funeral rites of the late Mion Lana, Abdullai III, at Sambu (Mion)”.
Nana Akufo-Addo also disclosed his close association with the Abudu family in his Facebook comments.
“The late Mion Lana’s family and mine have been close for many generations. His grandfather, the late Ya Na Mahamadu Abdullai I, was a friend of my father. His father, Ya Na Mahamadu Abdullai II, was my own very good friend. As Bolin Lana, whenever I came to Yendi, political or otherwise, I went to visit him. A cherished relationship that maintained itself right up till the end”.
