Javier Mascherano, the legendary Argentine and FC Barcelona player, has officially taken the reins as the new head coach of Inter Miami CF.
This highly anticipated move brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team, with Mascherano signing a contract through the 2027 MLS season.
As a player, Mascherano had an illustrious career, spanning 638 club appearances and 21 trophies, including memorable stints at FC Barcelona and Liverpool.
He also had an impressive international career, earning 147 caps for Argentina, the second-most in the country’s history.
As a coach, Mascherano brings experience from his time leading Argentina’s youth national teams, including a run to the quarterfinals at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
He’s also familiar with some of Inter Miami’s players, having coached Tomás Avilés, Facundo Farías, Federico Redondo, and Benjamin Cremaschi during his time with Argentina’s youth teams.
Mascherano’s appointment has generated excitement among Inter Miami fans, with co-owner David Beckham praising his “relentless determination” and “knowledge, instincts, and understanding” of the game.
With Mascherano at the helm, Inter Miami is poised to make a strong push for success in the 2025 season.
