NEDCo halts Tamale dawn exercise: NDC leadership intervened to curb potential violence – Alhaj Gbewaa

The Acting Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Alhaj Gbewaa has dismissed claims suggesting that the Leadership of the Party in the region prevailed on NEDCo to halt their dawn meter monitoring exercise on homes because it puts the ruling NDC government in the bad light.

Alhaj Gbewaa noted that the Party’s intervention is a proactive measure against possible degeneration to violence emanating from the exercise by the NEDCo in ungodly hours.

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company announced a halt of its exercise yesterday, 2nd October, 2025, following a meeting held with the leadership of NDC, Regional Coordinating Council and Tamale Metro Assembly at the NEDCo’s Office.

Leading the meeting were the Acting Chairman of the NDC in the Northern Region, Alhaj Gbewaa and Northern Regional Organizer of the NDC, Baba Zee, representing the Regional Minister due to his role as the Presidential Staffer at the RCC. While the Metropolitan Coordinating Director of the Tamale Metro also represented the Mayor at the meeting due to an assignment outside Tamale.

Also, present at the meeting was the Managing Director of NEDCo, management of the company and other staff members.

This follows an uproar and resentment expressed by residents of the Greater Tamale towards NEDCo since the power distribution company began conducting the exercise in some parts of the Metropolis in full excort of military.

The affected residents accused NEDCo of invading their privacy, harassing them while they are asleep, and visiting their homes unannounced and ungodly hours during their exercise.This, they underscore as a breach of their fundamental human rights, threatening to clash with the NEDCo Officials if they do not stop the exercise.

In order to avoid escalation of this stand off, the leadership of NDC intervened to plead with NEDCo to stop the exercise for now, with Alhaj Gbewaa at the center of negotiation urging the people within the Metropolis to remain calm without harboring ill-intentions towards any official from NEDCo because of the exercise, as they have agreed to halt it for the seek of peace and harmony and cordial relations between the people and NEDCo.

The revered Islamic Scholar also re-echoed the voices of some advocates that the University for Development Studies deserves to have its own stadium to further harness talents for the nation.

On behalf of the team, the captain of the side, Mohammed Asigri thanked the Zongo Chief in Tamale for the enormous gesture done them.

George Afriyie backs Black Stars to seek redemption against Comoros.

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, believes the Black Stars’ technical team will be highly motivated to settle old scores when Ghana faces Comoros in the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The crucial encounter is set for Sunday, October 12, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Ghana will aim to cap off their qualification campaign on a high note.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Afriyie voiced his confidence in the team’s determination to make amends.

“I am 100% sure that the technical team will go for revenge against Comoros,” he stated.
