Real Tamale United (RTU), led by CEO Zakaria Safiyan, visited the training grounds of the University for Development Studies (UDS) men’s soccer team on Sunday, September 31, 2025, to provide a motivational boost as they prepare for the upcoming World University Games in China. RTU donated an undisclosed sum of money and a variety of drinks to support the team’s efforts.
Accompanied by other members of RTU management, CEO Zakaria Safiyan acknowledged the significant contribution of UDS to talent and sports development in the Northern Region. He emphasized that RTU’s gesture was intended to encourage both the players and the technical team as they gear up for the global championship.
“We are here on behalf of the board chairman, Nyab Pishigu Lana, and the club’s patron to observe the team’s preparations,” stated Zakaria Safiyan. “UDS is a prestigious university, and representing the entire African continent is something we should all be proud of. Both RTU and UDS share the same ideologies, proudly representing the spirit of the north.”
Zakaria Safiyan also made a passionate appeal to corporate institutions in the Northern Region to support the team and contribute to their success on the world stage.
Director of Sports at UDS, Mr. Shaibu Tanko, expressed profound gratitude to RTU for their support on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and university management. He noted that RTU was the first organization to respond positively to the university’s calls for assistance, despite formal requests being sent to numerous other entities.
“RTU is the first to come to our aid, and they did so voluntarily, even though we sent letters seeking support to other organizations,” Mr. Tanko stated.
He announced that the team would depart for Accra on Tuesday for the final phase of preparations before traveling to China.
