Arsenal is set to appoint James King as the new Director of Football Operations, a role previously held by Richard Garlick, who has been promoted to Managing Director . King will rejoin the club after leaving for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) in 2022.
As Director of Football Operations, King’s primary responsibilities will include negotiating contracts, handling transfers, and overseeing football and administrative operations for both the men’s and women’s teams. His legal expertise will also be invaluable in navigating complex football regulations.
Garlick’s promotion to Managing Director was announced in January 2024, and he will assume responsibilities from outgoing CEO Vinai Venkatesham, who announced his departure last year .
Garlick has been instrumental in Arsenal’s football strategy, working closely with Sporting Director Edu and Manager Mikel Arteta.
King’s appointment is expected to bring continuity and stability to Arsenal’s executive team, which has seen significant changes in recent years.
His experience and expertise will be crucial in supporting Garlick in his new role and driving the club forward.
