Benjamin Mendy has successfully secured the majority of his unpaid wages from Manchester City, totaling over £8 million, after winning an employment tribunal .

This outcome follows Mendy’s acquittal on rape charges, which led to a lengthy battle with his former club over withheld wages

Mendy’s contract stipulated that, in addition to his £6 million salary, he would receive a £900,000 bonus for participating in 60% of matches .

However, Manchester City halted his payments in 2021 after he was charged with multiple sexual offenses . The tribunal ruled that the club was only justified in withholding wages for the five months Mendy spent in custody, but not for the remaining 17 months .

The verdict highlighted that Mendy’s suspension by the Football Association (FA) was precautionary, rather than punitive, and did not constitute misconduct .

As a result, Manchester City was obligated to pay Mendy’s wages during this period. Mendy had to borrow money from teammates, including Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez, after his salary was cut off
