Coalition of Unpaid Teachers: N/R GES Director labels their appointments as fake

By Inusah Dondaliya 23rd January, 2026

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr. Alidu Junior has described the appointment of Teachers, – 2023 Cohorts, known as Unpaid Coalition of Teachers as fake, asserting that GES does not recognize and approve their appointments, neither consider them as staff.

The Northern Regional GES Director’s statement is in response to the 2023 Cohort of Teachers, who at press conference in Tamale demanded immediate release of staff IDs and payment of their 25 months’ salary arrears after working for long while without validation.

Speaking in an interview with Sagani news, Mr. Alidu Junior, stated that these people parading themselves as teachers are not on the master’s list of GES at the headquarters in Accra, neither approved by GES, bringing their recruitment process into question.

He further disclosed that some of the ‘teachers’ are victims of a syndicate who used to sell appointments within GES to interested individuals after hacking into the system. This, he affirmed that the supposed teachers have bought the appointments from unscrupulous people, failing to follow due process by applying through GES online portal, making their appointments invalid.

Mr. Alidu Junior said “They are not staff of GES because should I call it fake? They have not gone through the due process and must say that is like the system was like hacked. And they know how they had their appointments. But I can speak on authority, if you ask them and if they will open-up with you. Almost all of them bought the appointment”.

The GES Director further stressed that “GES realized that the recruitment process was highjacked, and people penetrated into the system and were doing a lot of things, per GES master’s list from headquarters and validations, we realized that their names were not part of this master list. So I remember when I took over, this issue came, and they were asked to even stop work. So for them saying they are working and up to now they are not paid to me I will say am not aware of that”.

Meanwhile, Mr. Alidu Junior indicated that the only way they could become teachers is to reapply and follow due process if GES reopens its portal for teachers recruitment.
