Coalition of Unpaid Teachers, (2023 Cohorts) have picketed at the premises of the Ghana Education Service Headquarters in the Northern Region, Tamale, to demand regularization of their documents as staff of GES.

This took place on Wednesday 4th February 2026.

Among other things, the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers demanded release of their staff IDs and Payment of their 25 months’ salary arrears.

During the picketing, some of the teachers held placards with inscriptions such as “Our absence will create huge vacuum in classrooms”, “Honourable Haruna Iddrisu we are counting on you”, “We need a solution by second week of February”, “GES Mandate is solve problems, solve ours”, “H.E John Mahama Help us among others”.

The unpaid teachers denied claims that their appointments are fake, responding that they had followed due process to secure their appointments including acquiring Teachers’ Licensure Examination Certificate, posting letters, appointment letters signed by the then Director General of GES, wondering why they could be neglected and accused of buying the appointments through ill-legitimate means.

The teachers are bent on taking further steps including going beyond the Regional Directorate of Ghana Education Service to have their demands being met.

Receiving the Teachers’ petition was the Northern Regional Human Resource Manager of Ghana Education Service, who assured to deliver the message to appropriate quarters for redress.
