Dasuma Radio Announces Dates For 8th Clan Soccer Tournament

Dasuma Radio 99.1Mhz has announced that the 8th edition of its annual Clan Soccer Tournament will be held from December 20 to 27, 2026, in Yendi, with eight historic clans set to compete for honours.
The tournament, which has become a major sporting event on the Dagbon calendar, will be held under the theme: “8 Clans, One People, One Dagbon: Celebrating Unity Through Football.”
According to the organising committee, the competition is aimed at using football as a platform to promote peace, unity and brotherhood among the people of Dagbon.
Eight clans to compete
The participating clans are Goonji’nima, Laabangsi, Nakohi’nima, Macheli’nima, Lungsi, Mohi, Sapashin’nima and Wanzama.
The tournament was instituted in 2019 by the Chief Executive Officer of Dasuma Radio, Alhaji Baba Daney, following the resolution of the Dagbon Chieftaincy conflict.
Since its inception, the competition has grown into a major community sporting festival and a key attraction during the December festivities in Dagbon.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for December 20 at the Yendi Youth Resource Centre, with the tournament’s matches taking place at the Yendi Astroturf from December 21 to 26.
The competition will officially come to an end on December 27, with the closing ceremony also scheduled to take place at the Yendi Youth Resource Centre.
The organising committee said the official fixtures, competition rules and sponsorship packages would be announced in due course.
Football enthusiasts who are unable to attend the matches in person will be able to follow the action through live commentary on Dasuma Radio 99.1MHz, popularly known as the “Voice of Sankarayili.”
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Alhaji Abdul-Halim Rubai, has called on clan heads, supporters, sponsors, media organisations and the general public to support the tournament.
He said the support of stakeholders would be crucial to making the 8th edition a success while strengthening the tournament’s role as a platform for unity and peaceful coexistence in Dagbon

Steadfast FC Held by Wa Power FC in Season Opener

Steadfast FC opened their UMB Division One League Zone 1A campaign with a 1–1 draw against Wa Power FC in an entertaining Match Day 1 encounter at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
The opening fixture of the season produced the first goal of the campaign, with Steadfast FC taking an early lead through Yakeen Nurudeen, who calmly converted from the penalty spot in the third minute.
Wa Power FC, however, remained composed and went into the break trailing by a single goal.
The visitors returned from the interval with renewed purpose and were rewarded in the 60th minute, when Songbaare Cidoth converted another penalty to bring Wa Power FC level.
With both sides unable to find a winner, the contest ended 1–1, with all two goals coming from the penalty spot.
The result means Steadfast FC surrendered two points on home soil, while Wa Power FC secured a valuable away point to take back to Wa.
The opening-day encounter also saw goals scored in both halves, setting the tone for what promises to be a competitive Zone 1A campaign.

UDS RETAIN AFRICAN UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER EXTRA-TIME VICTORY IN CAIRO

The University for Development Studies (UDS) have successfully defended their African University Football Championship title after defeating Julius Nyerere University of Guinea 2–1 in a thrilling final of the 12th All-Africa University Games in Cairo, Egypt.
UDS produced a determined performance to secure back-to-back continental glory, with the final going beyond regulation time after both sides battled to a 1–1 draw.
Abdul Raphui broke the deadlock 15 minutes into the second half, putting UDS in front and giving the Ghanaian side a crucial advantage.
Julius Nyerere University, however, responded strongly and restored parity in the 70th minute, forcing the contest into extra time as neither side could find a winner in regulation.
With the championship hanging in the balance, UDS produced the decisive moment five minutes into the second half of extra time.
Ezedeen Alhassan stepped up to deliver a superb free-kick that found the back of the net, sending the UDS camp into celebration and securing a dramatic 2–1 victory.
The triumph marks another significant milestone in the history of UDS football and makes the institution the first university to win the African University Football Championship in consecutive editions.
The victory also underlines UDS’s remarkable dominance on the university football scene, with the institution now simultaneously holding the World, African and West African University Football Championship titles.
The achievement further strengthens UDS’s reputation as a leading force in university football and represents a major moment for Ghanaian university sport on the international stage.

Northern Ghana Football Stakeholders Make Mark at World Football Summit in Spain

Northern Ghana has received international visibility at the World Football Summit in Spain, with football administrator Ibrahim Gagbuni President of Fc Tamale and Alhaji Osman Baba Daney, Chief Executive Officer of Yendi-based Sankara Nationals FC, participating in the global football gathering.
The event also provided an opportunity for the two football stakeholders to meet Wunam Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of Kick Nations Sports, the son of Ghana Education Minister Hon, Haruna Iddrisu, another prominent figure with links to football development in Northern Ghana.
Their encounter brought together three individuals whose work and interests are connected to football development, youth empowerment and the growth of the game in the region.
The World Football Summit provides a platform for football executives, club owners, investors, administrators, technical experts and other industry stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore opportunities in areas including football development, infrastructure, youth development, women’s football, commercialisation and investment.
For representatives from Northern Ghana, participation in such an international forum provides an opportunity to gain exposure to global football practices and engage with stakeholders beyond Ghana’s football ecosystem.
Gagbuni’s participation reflects his interest in strategic football development and the creation of structures that can support the growth of young football talents. Alhaji Osman Baba Daney, meanwhile, brings experience from his involvement in football administration and the management of Sankara Nationals FC.
The presence of Wunam Haruna at the summit added another dimension to the Northern Ghana representation, particularly given his involvement in grassroots football development through Kick Nations Sports.
The meeting comes at a time when football stakeholders across Northern Ghana continue to explore ways of developing the region’s considerable football talent beyond player production.
For decades, the North has contributed significantly to Ghana’s football talent pool, producing players who have gone on to compete at national and international levels. Increasingly, attention is also being placed on strengthening the structures, leadership and investment opportunities needed to develop that talent locally.
Participation in international football forums such as the World Football Summit can therefore create opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and potential partnerships that could contribute to the development of clubs and young players in the region.
