The retirement age of the Dean of Students at Bagabaga College of Education, Fuseini Yakubu Jacob has become subject of interest to every dom dick and Harry in the school community following his continue stay in office while reaching the retirement age.
Supposed to be in his retirement, Mr. Fuseini Yakubu serving as Dean of Students has signed signatories with the newly elected Executives of the school and sworn in SRC Executives into office last month, marking abuse of office and Acting in sharp contrast of the law.
He seems emboldened to continue to exercise authority in office upon an alleged clandestine backing enjoyed from the Member of Parliament of Sagnarigu who is desirous in exerting his influence through change of date of birth to enable him perpetuate in office to the detriment of others who equally qualified to occupy the position.
Fuseini Yakubu Jacob’s retirement was due in May 2025, but the Principal of the College has since failed to communicate in writing to notify him formally after the MP of Sagnarigu allegedly masterminded his extension of stay in office at BACE.
Among other things, this is not the first time he has been in the news for the wrong reasons, in 2022 Mr. Yakubu Jacob illegally acted as Principal of BACE after suppressing the interest of qualified people to the position through the College Council, culminating to GTEC refusing to honor his acting allowance following detection of illegalities surrounding his acting capacity role.
Since 1992, Ghana’s compulsory retirement age has been set at 60 years, although some individuals have suggested increasing it to 65 years.
Having attained more than 60 years, Mr. Yakubu is bent in flouting the laws including altering his date of birth to his own advantage through the help of Hon. Atta Issah to continuously serve in office despite reaching the age limit.

Celebration of the 2026 Damba Festival is taking place as planned in Kumbungu Traditional Area – Kumbung Naa Yiri

21st August, 2026
The Paramount Chief of Kumbungu, Naa Yab Kumbung Naa Yiri II, Naa Alhaji Iddrisu Abu, has firmly asserted that the celebration of the 2026 Damba Festival is taking place as planned, stating that he is leading the People in the Kumbungu Traditional Area to mark the festivities, contrary to the suspension directive announced by Naa Yab-Kugu Naa Adam Abdulai.
According to the Kumbung Naa, celebrating the Damba Festival forms part of the Dagbon customs and Traditions and also symbolizes its cultural heritage, which must be showcased every year and not be ignored due to a unilateral decision by an individual Chief.
Addressing elders and People of Kumbungu at his Palace, Naa Yab-Kumbung Naa stated that there was no wider consultation with chiefs, especially the elders of Dagbon, concerning the suspension of the Damba Festival, stressing that it came to him as a shock, as some of them should have been in the know before such critical information is put out for public consumption.
Further justifying the celebration of the Damba Festival, Kumbungu Naa noted that since the 3-day and a week prayers are observed, coupled with the subsequent installation of the Regent of Dagbang in line with customs and traditions as part of the funeral rites of the late King, the celebration of the Damba Festival is valid without any contravention of the customary laws of Dagbon.
Meanwhile, Naa Yiri also stressed the need for broader consultation and engagement among Dagbon traditional authorities, especially on critical decisions that will be binding on all paramountcies across the Dagbon Kingdom.
