The Paramount Chief of Choggu, Naa Alhassan Mahama, has received a brand New Pickup Vehicle from the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, aimed at aiding transportation activities of the Palace, especially involving the Chief.

On behalf of the President, the Representative of the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan S. Suhuyini, presented the vehicle to the Paramount Chief of Choggu.

Possessing a vehicle now will enhance the daily activities of the Palace in the Choggu Traditional Area, including movements, official engagements, and sending of errands.

The Chief and Elders of the Palace expressed their profound appreciation to the President for the gesture, and also acknowledged the efforts of the Deputy Minister of Roads for his role in facilitating the gesture to reach the Palace.

The Tamale Central NDC Constituency Executives, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the Area, Professor Alidu Seidu, have held a commemorative ceremony in honor of the Late and Former MP of the Constituency, Hon. Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim, following his passing and that of seven others in a helicopter crash exactly a year ago.

As part of the commemorative event, a Qur’anic recitation ceremony was held at a community mosque near the Constituency Party Office, with Islamic Clerics offering prayers and seeking forgiveness for the soul of the late Former Minister of State, whose faith, values, and beliefs were deeply rooted in Islamic teachings while he was alive.

Following the Quran recitation, a solemn event was also held at the NDC Constituency Office in remembrance of the late MP, who they described as a God-fearing, humble, and diligent leader, as he committed his life and resources to improving the livelihoods of people through interventions and development initiatives across all spheres of life.

Attending the ceremony were Constituency Executives, Coordinators, Polling Station Executives and Party faithful in the area. The Current MP of the area also graced the ceremony.

The MP also seized the moment to distribute food items, provisions, and other materials to over 100 downtrodden people in the Constituency, including 90 widows and 10 orphans, as alms in honor of the late MP, Murtala Mohammed.

Among the items donated to the beneficiaries were rice, cooking oil, crates of milk, prayer mats, and assorted drinks.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Alidu Seidu eulogized the late Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim, describing him as a hard-working MP who was committed to changing the lives and bringing development to the people.

Prof. Seidu further announced that a memorial lecture and scholarship scheme will be institutionalized in the name of the late MP, aimed not only at honoring him but also at consolidating his legacy in the Constituency, Northern Region, and Ghana as a whole.

The Family House of the late Hon. Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed, located at Dohinayili near Changli in Tamale, has been destroyed by fire, causing significant damage to the occupants of the residence.

A compound house containing 16 rooms had 8 rooms destroyed despite the intervention of the Fire Service to mitigate the impact of the blaze.

The incident occurred around 3:00pm on Wednesday, 5th August, 2026, and caught the attention of the Ghana Fire Service through a distress call, prompting the Fire Personnel to respond to the incident by moving to the scene with fire tenders to douse the fire, curbing it immediately from escalating.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Firefighters swiftly rescued two children who were staying in one of the affected rooms while the fire was blazing.

None of the occupants affected by the fire outbreak was able to retrieve a single property of theirs, losing everything, including electronic appliances, such as TV sets, fridges, ceiling fans, as well as clothing, beds, wardrobes, mattresses, among other valuable items.

Even though devastated by the incident, the head of the affected family, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, attributes the occurrence of the fire outbreak to acts of God and does not blame anyone for the incident, reflecting his faith in the Almighty Allah.

Briefing the media about the incident, the Northern Regional P.R.O of Ghana National Fire Service, Hudu Baba, indicated that an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hudu has also lamented over constraints holding them back in responding to emergency Fire Outbreaks, mentioning overstretched vehicles, obsolete equipment, and lack of water supply as critical factors hindering the smooth operation of the Ghana National Fire Service.
