The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced a series of key political appointments to oversee his political activities and office as the party begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.

The appointments bring together experienced politicians, policy experts, legal minds, communication strategists, and youth mobilizers, reflecting what political observers describe as a deliberate effort to build a strong and effective political machinery for the years ahead.

Heading the team is former Majority Leader and veteran parliamentarian, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who has been appointed Chief of Staff. His role will involve coordinating the operations of Dr. Bawumia’s office and providing strategic leadership to the newly constituted team.

Former Suhum Member of Parliament, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has been tasked with overseeing identifiable activities, while former NPP National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, assumes the position of Director of Political Strategies. The appointment places him at the centre of the party’s long-term political planning and electoral strategy.

Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Fred Oware, has been named Political Advisor, bringing years of experience in governance and party administration to the role.

In the area of communications, seasoned communicator and former Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has been appointed Communication Advisor. He will be supported by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who takes up the position of Director of Communications, and Krobea Kwabena Asante, who has been named Director of New Media and Aide.

Former Minister for Information and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has been appointed to coordinate policy matters as Head of Policy Coordination. His role is expected to focus on shaping and articulating Dr. Bawumia’s policy agenda.

Former Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and former NPP National Youth Organizer, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has been assigned responsibility for Organization and Youth Inclusion, underscoring the importance of youth engagement in the party’s future strategy.

On economic affairs, Dr. Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North and former spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia on economic matters, has been appointed Economic Advisor and Economic Spokesperson.

The communications and public engagement team is further strengthened with the appointment of Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini as Spokesperson and Aide, while Dr. Ekua Amoakoh has been named Deputy Spokesperson.

The Flagbearer has also appointed Akosua Manu as Gender Advisor, a role expected to focus on women’s participation and gender-related policy engagement within the party. Lawyer and former parliamentary candidate, Hon. Amma Frimpong, will serve as Legal Advisor.

The appointments are widely seen as an indication of Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to maintaining an active political presence while positioning the NPP for the next electoral cycle. The team combines experience in governance, communications, policy development, grassroots mobilization, legal affairs, and economic management, creating a broad-based structure to support the party’s activities ahead of the 2028 polls.

Political analysts believe the new appointments signal the beginning of an intensive rebuilding and reorganization effort aimed at strengthening the NPP’s electoral fortunes and enhancing engagement with party supporters across the country
