The Ministry of Education has strongly condemned the shooting incident at Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Primary School in Yendi, Northern Region, describing the attack as a serious threat to the safety and security of Ghana’s educational institutions.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, the Ministry said preliminary reports indicate that two armed men stormed the school premises and indiscriminately discharged firearms, causing fear and panic among pupils, teachers, and other staff members.
The Ministry further disclosed that the headmaster of the school was allegedly assaulted during the incident and sustained injuries.
Reacting to the attack, the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, directed the Ghana Police Service to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
The Ministry stressed that schools are sacred spaces dedicated to teaching, learning, and the holistic development of children, emphasizing that acts of violence, intimidation, and the use of firearms on school premises are unacceptable.
It also urged the public to desist from encroaching on school lands, noting that such actions often contribute to disputes that threaten the peaceful operation of educational institutions.
The Ministry expressed solidarity with the affected pupils, staff, and the injured headmaster, wishing him a speedy recovery while assuring parents, guardians, and the public of its commitment to working closely with security agencies to guarantee safe learning environments across the country.
Additionally, the Ministry appealed to anyone with credible information that could assist investigations to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service.
The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education.

Michael Edwards has officially stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of Football at Fenway Sports Group (FSG), ending his tenure with one year remaining on his contract.
Edwards, who returned to Liverpool’s ownership group in March 2024 after a successful spell as the club’s sporting director, has now departed in what FSG described as a planned transition. During his time in the role, he helped oversee Liverpool’s football operations and guided the club through significant structural changes following Jürgen Klopp’s departure.
Following Edwards’ exit, Fenway Sports Group will not appoint a direct replacement. Instead, FSG president Mike Gordon is expected to resume oversight of the group’s football operations, continuing the organization’s strategy from the executive level.
Edwards was widely regarded as one of the architects of Liverpool’s modern success, playing a key role in recruitment and the club’s long-term football strategy. His return to FSG in 2024 was seen as a major boost as Liverpool entered a new era, but his departure marks another significant change within the club’s executive structure.
Despite the leadership reshuffle, reports indicate that Liverpool’s football and transfer operations are expected to continue without immediate disruption under the existing management team.
