Former Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam(Anta) has posed two questions to the Government over its decision to increase the base salary of Public Sector workers by 10 percent amid inheriting a weak economy.
This follows the pronouncement of former President John Mahama claiming at a meeting with the Labor Union that the previous administration criminally managed the economy his Government came to meet.
The government of Ghana through the Ministry of Labor Relations and Employment announced an increment of the base pay salary of public sector workers across the board in Ghana.
Responding to this on his Facebook page, the Karaga MP asked this first question, “How could an economy described as “criminally mishandled” be able to afford increases in the base pay for public sector workers by 30% in 2023; 23% from Jan – June 2024; and 25% from July – December 2024; and still posted decent fiscal deficits”?
He probed further, “What has changed between December 2024 and February 2025, that suddenly put the economy in crisis, which cannot afford an adjustment in the base pay above 10%”?
His questions are in response to Government Officials creating the impression that they inherited an ailing economy from the NPP erstwhile administration.
