“Joyce Bawa Marks 25 Years at the Bar: A Journey of Law, Leadership and Legacy”
A few days ago, a small group of us from the Millennium Class of the Ghana School of Law came together once again, this time to launch our 25th anniversary.
It’s been twenty-five years since we were called to the Bar. This week’s gathering was one of many stories, memories and journeys: some of us still young in spirit, others seasoned by time and experience, yet all united by one shared beginning in that familiar classroom.
For me, this moment was deeply personal. It’s been a journey of triumph and gratitude. I couldn’t help but think of my late father, whose greatest wish was to see all his children succeed. The study of law was my first calling, my first love. From private practice to corporate life, from the classroom to public service and politics, my career has been a continuous pursuit of knowledge, excellence, and purpose.
As we commemorate this milestone, I am reminded that every bit of influence I’ve built over the years has been the product of process and perseverance. My love for humanity, purposefulness and commitment have been my greatest assets.
Leadership, Hard work, Dedication, Passion, and Determination have defined my path.
Each phase, whether with my colleagues at the Legal Aid Board, firms where I worked, at the Venture Capital Trust Fund, KPMG, and the Ghana Shippers’ Authority where I honed my expertise in International Shipping and Transport Law, developing a maritime training manual for Judges and Magistrates’ seminars, working with trade associations, the International Maritime Organization, or now as I prepare to speak at the International Maritime law Institute early next year, my career has been marked by diligence and commitment.
Life within and beyond government has been no different.
My sense of leadership, and commitment to empowering others in my own small way, has continued to propagate my influence, a great attitude, soft power, strategic planning and diplomacy have enabled and empowered me.
From the hallowed halls of law to the dynamic world of politics, every step has been one of purpose.
In recent years, beginning a new chapter in enterprise, returning to school, and engaging in politics have all tested my resilience.
Yet through it all, I have rediscovered myself and refined my personal brand- strong, bold, and confident. I’ve acquired new qualifications beyond Law, authored stories, built an incredible network through countless business ventures and speaking engagements, and raised a beautiful family.
I am profoundly grateful to God for His grace, to my amazing parents, my loving family, and the few true friends who have stood by me.
From my earliest days in Jane Alhassan’s kindergarten class, it was apparent that I was imbued with a strong intellect, creativity and good leadership skills.
I have been blessed with people who have shaped my journey in remarkable ways.
I have always taken a cue from the village that raised me to brighten my corner, no matter how small. And if ever asked to serve tea, I would do so with grace and elegance, leaving a mark that endures, no matter the task. writen by Hon Joyce Bawa on FB
