GSA warns Consumers against patronage of Substandard electrical products from the Market

Ghana Standard Authority has held stakeholder’s forum in Tamale aimed at sensitizing the general public against the patronage of inferior electrical products at the Market.

During the meeting, the officials from Ghana Standard Authority noted the influx of substandard electrical products in the market, posing threats to consumers including destruction of properties, warning them against purchasing products not approved by Ghana Standard Authority.

This follows domination of the market by substandard products following a scientific test conducted by the Ghana Standard Authority.

The forum dubbed ‘Electro-Vigillance’ brought Stakeholders in the electronic value chain together including Electronic Dealers, certified electricians, Contactors, students, Security Agencies, and Persons from the academia.

Speaking to the media, the Northern Regional Manager of Ghana Standard Authority, Mr. Basim Alhassan, hinted that GSA in collaboration with Energy Commission will embark on surveillance in the markets to rid off inferior electrical products.

“We are going to have collaboration with Energy Commission, we are going to have a series of surveillance to make sure that we wane off our markets of these substandard electrical cables”.

On his part Ing. Francis Akpaloo, the Senior Scientific Officer at GSA, entreats consumers to patronize electrical products that are labeled by Ghana Standard Authority, insisting that products without labels at the market are either substandard or fake ones.

“The introduction of this label which will be difficult for anybody to attempt to copy, When you have the labels on the products, it is an authentication that the products have gone through various stages of quality test under GSA. But if you are buying and you don’t see this label. The first impression is that product is a substandard one, fake one or it has not gone through the GSA system of verification”.

NOMMAG MARKS 5TH ANNIVERSARY: AGENTS LAUDED FOR PLAYING PIVOTAL ROLE IN THE FINANCIAL STRUCTURE

Northern Regional Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana(NOMMAG) has climaxed its 5th Anniversary Celebration with a grand Durbar held in Tamale, aimed at promoting activities of the Association for the attention of the general public especially MoMo subscribers.

The anniversary was marked by NOMMAG under the theme: “5 years of Empowering and Uniting agents to secure better condition of service in the financial ecosystem”.

NOMMAG marked the anniversary celebration with series of activities preceding the grand Durbar program held on Saturday, 6th December 2025, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Some of the activities undertaken include free health screening exercise for residents of Choggu, Football games played against Media XI and Access Bank, Health Walk exercise and a donation to inmates at the Tamale Central Prisons.

Attending the event were some of the partners of NOMMAG which included, Officials from Forms Capital, Access Bank, and the Norhern Regional Manager of MTN Ghana. While a legal Practitioner, Lawyer Kobina Paul Ampem who also graced the occasion following an invitation, was made the Chairperson of the occasion.

Also present to witness the climax was the Northern Regional P.R O.of Ghana Police, Chief Inspector Alhassan Lukman Neindoow who attended the event on behalf of the Regional Police Commander.

NOMMAG members across the region and beyond also attended the 5th anniversary ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, the President of Northern Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana, Mumuni Abdul Aziz outlined some of the activities undertaken to mark the 5th anniversary of NOMMAG, highlighting achievements of the Association after 5 years existence in the financial ecosystem.

Among the key successes enumerated by the NOMMAG president include increment of cash commission of Members, increment of airtime commission for members, collaborating with security agencies to arrest fraudsters, awareness creation and providing security tips to members, among other successes.

On behalf of the Northern Regional Police Commander, the Police Public Relations Officer for Northern Region, seized the platform to share security tips with Momo Agents, urging them to report suspicious characters moving around their spaces of operations.

Speaking at the event as chairman of the occasion, Lawyer Kobina Paul Ampem, a Private Legal Practitioner, acknowledged the pivotal role MoMo Vendors play in the financial structure with a lot people relying on the agents for business transactions and sustainability of livelihoods through MoMo transactions.

2026 World Cup: Ghana Black Stars Drawn in Group L against England, Croatia and Panama

Ghana has been drawn in the same group with England, European giants in the FIFA 2026 world draw, along with Croatia and Panama.

The draw which took place today, Friday, 5th December 2025 at the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington DC of USA saw Ghana drawn against England in the same group for the first time in world cup history.

The last time Ghana played against England was in international friendly in 2010 at Wembley, which saw Former Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan scoring an equalizer to make the score 1-1 at the end of the full time.

Ghana is expected to play their first game against Panama. Follow by Croatia in the second game with the game against England coming off as the last group L match.

With the Black Stars performing poorly at the last world cup showing in Qatar, the team is expected to make amends at the 2026 world cup to be hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.

The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. It will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries. 11 in the United States, 3 in Mexico, and 2 in Canada. The tournament will be the first to be hosted by three nations.

Concerned NDC Youth back Nanton DCE; Dismiss calls for her removal

The NDC Concerned Youth in Nanton have thrown their weight behind the District Chief Executive, Hon. Rosina Zeinabu Abdul Rahaman, rubbishing the calls for her removal from office by some Constituency Executives.

The NDC Concerned Youth noted that the allegations leveled against the DCE are grounded on no merit, and without substance intended to smear her hard-earned reputation.

In a press release today, Thursday 4th December 2025, and signed by Executives of the Concerned Youth, they affirmed the commitment of the DCE to chart the part of development and progress of Nanton, impacting the lives of people and building sustainable livelihoods through solid initiatives.

According to the Group, the DCE has not engaged in any action that undermined the integrity, resources, or development agenda of the district, insisting that All administrative and financial transactions within the assembly follow established procedures, internal controls and audit requirements, discounting all reports that claim contrary.

They stressed that the DCE had always adhered to the principles of accountability, transparency, and due process in discharging all her official duties.

“To this end, we want to categorically point out that, there is no at any point that the DCE has engaged in any action that undermined the integrity, resources, or development agenda of the district.All administrative and financial transactions within the assembly follow established procedures, internal controls and audit requirements.The DCE has always upheld the principles of accountability, transparency, and due process in discharging all her official duties”

Meanwhile the Nanton NDC Concerned Youth also call for support from stakeholders in the district including the traditional Authorities to enable her fulfil the reset agenda of president Mahama in the district and also focus on her mandate-delivering quality leadership, promoting local development, supporting community needs, and ensuring that government policies are implemented effectively within the district.

“let us support the DCE to fulfil the reset agenda of president Mahama in our district.
Meanwhile, we want to reaffirm that the DCE remains fully focused on her mandate-delivering quality leadership, promoting local development, supporting community needs, and ensuring that government policies are implemented effectively within the district.
