Haruna Iddrisu pledges to support 47 medical students under the late Murtala’s scholarship program

The Education Minister, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has assured to cement the legacy of the late MP for Tamale Central, Dr. Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed, by supporting medical students under his scholarship initiative to complete their studies.

According to the Tamale South Legislator, he will take care of the remaining school fees by the 47 medical students pursuing Medicine at the various Tertiary Institutions in Ghana.

His assurance comes during final funeral ‘Adua’ (Prayers) of the late Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation held in Tamale following appeal made by the beneficiaries to Government, NGOs and Philanthropists to come to their rescue.

While alive and was serving the people of Tamale Central as their MP, the late Hon.Murtala Ibrahim prioritized investing in human resource of the Constituency through education scholarship opportunities for brilliant but needy students studying in Medicine degrees. The MP used to pay the school fees for 47 students pursuing medical courses, aimed at boosting the human resource base in the health sector.

Until the announcement by the Education Minister, to continue to sponsor education of those Medical Students, their lives hanged in the balance with so many uncertainties.

Meanwhile, the Beneficiary Students under the late MP’s scholarship program seized the opportunity to eulogize him, highlighting the void left on their souls, and valuable contributions he has made to impact their lives positively.

The final ‘Adua'(Prayers) of the late Tamale Central MP attracted a lot of dignitaries, government, and Party functionaries including NDC National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, and Former Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam Anta. Also present were Mps from both Political divide.

Delivering his speech in Dagbani at the funeral grounds, Hon.Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that he will shoulder scholarship initiative started by the late MP to support the beneficiaries to complete their medical courses.
