Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Ghana and the Government of the Republic of Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education across the country.

Sharing the development on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, the Minister described the agreement as a major milestone in Ghana’s efforts to build a future-ready education system that equips learners with the skills required for the digital age.

The agreement will facilitate the implementation of the US$28 million STEM for All (D-STEM) Programme, which will run from 2026 to 2032. The initiative is expected to expand STEM education to four regions, 12 districts, 713 schools, 1,426 teachers, and 86 education circuits, with the Ashanti and Northern Regions joining the programme.

According to the Minister, the D-STEM Programme will strengthen teachers’ digital capacity in STEM education through targeted training and professional development. It will also establish Smart Schools equipped with modern digital learning technologies to enhance teaching and learning in participating schools.

The programme further includes the construction of the Accra STEM Park, which is expected to serve as a national hub for science, technology and innovation education, as well as the enhancement of the Northern STEM Resource Centre to improve access to quality STEM education for students and teachers in northern Ghana.

Haruna Iddrisu noted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to expanding equitable access to quality education and preparing Ghanaian learners to compete in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

He expressed profound appreciation to the Government and people of the Republic of Korea and KOICA for their continued support and partnership in advancing educational development in Ghana.

“I sincerely thank the Government and people of the Republic of Korea and KOICA for their unwavering partnership as we work together to build a future-ready education system for every Ghanaian child,” the Minister stated.

The D-STEM Programme is expected to contribute significantly to Ghana’s education transformation agenda by improving digital learning infrastructure, enhancing teachers’ competencies, and increasing opportunities for students to acquire practical STEM knowledge and skills needed for national development.
