Published 4th February 2026

Imoro Salmu has etched her name in the sporting history of the Kumbungu District after becoming the first female from the area to acquire the CAF Licence ‘B’, certificate, marking a significant milestone in her coaching journey in Africa.

Born in Ginagani in the Kumbungu District, the 30-year-old’s journey reflects a strong blend of academic excellence and football development.

Salmu began her basic education at Ginagani R/C Primary School, and later attended Kumbungu Nibrisia JHS. She pursued her Senior High School education at the Business College of Education before completing her studies at Kumbungu Senior High School in 2015.

Her academic pursuit continued at the University for Development Studies (UDS), where she was enrolled in 2017 and obtained a Diploma in Development Education in 2019. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Education from the same institution in 2023.

In 2025, Salmu completed a Master’s degree in Educational Management and Planning and is currently pursuing another Master’s programme in Sports Management and Marketing at Tamale Technical University, with completion expected in February 2026.

Salmu’s football journey began in 2010 when she featured as a goalkeeper for Dalun Yopp Ladies FC. She would later played for Simli Ladies FC, Beyom Ladies FC, and Real Crusaders FC in Wa in the Upper West Region.

At the tertiary level, she represented the University for Development Studies (UDS) Ladies Team between 2016 and 2021.
Following her retirement from active football, Salmu transitioned into coaching in 2020 and has since risen steadily through the ranks. She currently holds the GFA Licence D, CAF Licence C, and the CAF Licence B, in addition to the GFA Licence A in Goalkeepers Coaching, which she obtained in 2024.

With Coach Iddi Manza Alhassan currently the highest CAF Licence holder from the Kumbungu District with a CAF Licence ‘A’, Salmu is widely tipped to become the next coach from the district to reach that level. Her rapid rise has already placed her among a select group of female coaches in Ghana making notable progress in the game.

Imoro Salmu is presently serving as an assistant coach of Northern Ladies FC, a side competing in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, while she continues to build a promising coaching career.
