Ministerial Nominations: It’s too early to question President Mahama’s decision – Hon Suhuyini

Published on Wednesday 22 January 2025

Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has indicated that President John Mahama has had it spot on in nominating the caliber of people for ministerial considerations.

According to him, the president has made the best decision so far with the ministerial appointment aimed at serving the best interest of every Ghanaian.

Hon. Suhuyini expressed confidence in the president’s decision, saying he has nominated the right people to deliver their best for Ghana emphasizing the need to offer them the needed support to thrive at their various ministries.

His reaction comes following the release of ministerial nominees on Tuesday, 21st January 2025 by the president without the inclusion of his name for ministerial nomination.

Hon. Suhuyini’s name is conspicuously missing from the third batch of ministerial nominees list.

This has caused anger and dissatisfaction among followers of the MP who have expressed disappointment over the supposed snub for a ministerial portfolio through social media.

Speaking to the media in Tamale after the vetting of applicants for the MMDCEs position at the RCC, Hon.Alhassan Suhuyini noted that it is too early to question the decision of the president because the appointment is not in line with expectations, entreating calm, and support for the new Government led by President Mahama to succeed.

“It is too early to question the decisions he makes just because those decisions are not in line with our expectations. We must continue to have that level of confidence in him, knowing very well that with all the information available to him, he will always make decisions that are in the best interest of Ghanaians, and best interest of NDC, and the best interest of all of us. We want his Government to succeed and so that should be paramount to all of us”.

“And we put him in front as a flagbearer of the party because we know that his decisions at this time will make the party more attractive, will make us reset the country and win subsequent elections. let’s continue to have confidence in him. I have absolute confidence in the team he has assembled. From the Ministerial appointment to the presidential staffers to the CEOs”.

While Hon. Suhuyini has not yet received any nomination from the president, his brothers Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South, and MURTALA MOHAMMED, MP for Tamale Central have both been recognized for ministerial portfolios.

The payment represents the NLA’s first dividend contribution to the state since 2017, according to reports on the presentation.

Dr. Ato Forson welcomed the development but stressed that the contribution should not be treated as a symbolic gesture. He called for sustained efforts by the NLA to improve its revenue generation and deliver greater financial value to the state.

The Finance Minister further disclosed that the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the NLA and the Attorney-General, is reviewing existing revenue-sharing agreements involving the Authority. According to him, the review is intended to address arrangements that may have limited the revenue accruing to government.
