Muslims to observe 2 holidays during Eid beginning this year – Prez Mahama

Published on 1st March 2025

President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama has instructed his legal Advisor at the Presidency Marrieta Brew Appiah-Oppong to ensure the amendment of the Public Holidays Act (Act 986) to give additional holidays for Muslims during Eid Festivities.

According to the President, the 2-day holidays will be effective this year after the Muslims complete the almost 30-day fasting period.

This is in fulfillment of the campaign promise made to the Muslims prior to the 2024 elections while seeking their mandate as then the Opposition Leader.

The president made these remarks during the sod-cutting ceremony of Hajj Village in Accra to commence construction of the project.

Muslims across Ghana observe two Eids in the Islamic calendar year. Eidul-Fitr is marked immediately after the month of Ramadan. Eidul Adha is observed with the ritual sacrifice of Animals to God in the last month of the Islamic calendar.
