The DCE of Nanton Hon. Rosina Zeinabu Abdul-Rahamani has launched a monthly Sanitation campaign in the district aimed at promoting good sanitation practices including inculcating the habit of personal hygiene among the inhabitants.

The launch of the sanitation program is in response to Clean Ghana sanitation agenda introduced by the current NDC government tailored in making Ghana the cleanest destination in the sub Saharan Africa with the various districts Assemblies tasked with the responsibility to deliver this mandate.

This initiative is also borne out as a result of inadequate sanitation infrastructure in the district, exposing the lives of residents to health risks such as Dysentery, Cholera and other related diseases.

Available information to the Assembly indicates that out of the 77 communities in the district, only 23 are open defecation free, representing only 29 percent in the improvement of sanitation in the area.

A research study also reveals that inadequate Water and sanitation facilities in the Nanton District also lead to community mortality, diarrhea, Cholera and water borne diseases among others.

Against this backdrop, Hon.Rosina Zeinabu launched the sanitation campaign in her district to change the narrative to improve health condition of the people, marking a significant step towards management of waste, promoting sanitation and personal hygiene.

Launching the campaign at Zogu in the Nanton District, the DCE led the people to embark on a clean up exercise, tidying up the entire community and clearing filth dotted across the community.

She also paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Zogu, revealing her vision to leading a safe community free from health outbreaks through meticulous waste disposal, enhanced sanitation practices and personal hygiene.

The DCE seized the opportunity to appeal to the conscience of the people to take steps keeping their environment clean as always, admonishing youth, groups, traditional rulers to promote virtues of sanitation in their various communities, also urging school children to emulate good sanitation practices at their various schools for their safety and serene learning environment.
