Nyankpala Shooting in 2024 Elections: Police pursue the arrest of Latif Kobishiyi, Sankara – Interior Minister

Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak has disclosed that the security agencies are pursuing individuals behind gun shooting incident that occurred at Nyankpala in the Tolon district on the elections day of December 7th 2024, claiming a life and injuring five other persons.

At a press briefing of investigative report into 2020 and 2024 elections presented by the IGP following directive from the President, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak indicated that Alhaj Yakubu Latif Kobishiyi and Sankara have been indicted in the report with the police on the look out for them in their hideouts for arrest, and subsequent prosecution, directing further that those who have been arrested wrongly earlier and detained in connection to the incident be set free.

The Minister said “The Taskforce recommended that suspects Alhaj Yakubu Latif Kobishiyi, and Sankara are been pursued and will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted. They have all flee the community”.

From the report, the Minister of Interior also noted that tension and insecurity has heightened in Nyankpala and Tolon following the violence, disclosing that there has been massive presence of sophisticated weapons held by the community members waiting to ignite chaos and visit mayhem on one another.

Meanwhile, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak also stated that the family of the deceased, Haruna Shaibu, who was shot dead in the gun shooting incident at Nyankpala should be compensated by the state along with the 6 others who sustained degrees of injuries during the violence.

“The family of SHAIBU Haruna and those who suffered injuries should be compensated by the state”.
