President John Dramani Mahama has gifted 500,000 Ghana Cedis to UDS as reward for the school football team’s unprecedented feat chalked at the Global Stage.

The President made the announcement when the UDS entourage including the playing body and technical Staff led by the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan presented the trophy and a plaque to the President to serve as memory of their performance.

UDS claimed the ultimate trophy at the World Universities Tournament(FISU) held in Dalian, China, after beating Paulista University from Brazil 2-1 at the grand finale.

At a short ceremony at the Presidency, President Mahama expressed government’s appreciation to management and students for their gallant showing, and making Ghana proud through sports.

UDS was Established on 15th May 1992, with only a single faculty at the Nyankpala campus, the University for Development Studies (UDS) is Ghana’s first public university in the North with the aim to provide quality higher education, undertake research and to blend the academic world with that of the community.

The pedagogical philosophy of UDS is said to have been borne out of a new thinking in higher education emphasizing the need for universities as teaching and research institutions to play more active role in addressing societal problems (especially rural areas) for speedy development.
