Sankara Nationals beat Steadfast 2-1 to qualify for Division 1 League

Sankara Nationals have secured qualification to the Division One League after beating Steadfast 2-1 in the Division Two League playoff played on Saturday, 31st May 2025 at the Aliu Mahama Sports.

The two teams came face to face after they emerged winners of their respective zones in the Division Two League.

Steadfast drew the first blood just two minutes into the game through a spot kick converted by Manytea Uthman. It took hard work and determination for Sankara Nationals to bounce back with an equalizer through Sylvester Biyandau at the 40-minute mark.

Sampa Joshia nailed the win for the Yendi based club with the goal in the 75 minutes to guarantee their promotion into the Division One League.

Sankara Nationals became the second club from Yendi after Gbewaa United in recent times to qualify for Division 1.

As organizers of the Division Two League, the Northern Regional Division Two working committee awarded Sankara Nationals with 5,000 Ghana Cedis as the prize money plus 30 gold medals to the playing body and club officials. While the runners-up took home, 3,000 Ghana Cedis from Northern Regional Football Association.

While Steadfast is owned by the Educational Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, Sankara Nationals Football Club is bankrolled by Alhaj Baba Daney, a technocrat, who is also a Chartered Accountant.
