Steadfast FC opened their UMB Division One League Zone 1A campaign with a 1–1 draw against Wa Power FC in an entertaining Match Day 1 encounter at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
The opening fixture of the season produced the first goal of the campaign, with Steadfast FC taking an early lead through Yakeen Nurudeen, who calmly converted from the penalty spot in the third minute.
Wa Power FC, however, remained composed and went into the break trailing by a single goal. The visitors returned from the interval with renewed purpose and were rewarded in the 60th minute, when Songbaare Cidoth converted another penalty to bring Wa Power FC level.
With both sides unable to find a winner, the contest ended 1–1, with all two goals coming from the penalty spot. The result means Steadfast FC surrendered two points on home soil, while Wa Power FC secured a valuable away point to take back to Wa.
The opening-day encounter also saw goals scored in both halves, setting the tone for what promises to be a competitive Zone 1A campaign.
