Sudan this afternoon significantly boosted their chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, after defeating the black stars of Ghana by 2-0.

The match, held at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya, saw Sudan’s coach James Kwesi Appiah outsmart his former team

Ghana’s goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi made some crucial saves in the first half to keep the Black Stars in the game, but Sudan’s persistence paid off in the second half .

Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Tash broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, and just three minutes later, Mohamed Abdelrahman sealed the win for Sudan

This vital win propels Sudan to 7 points, just two behind group leaders Angola, while Ghana remains winless with only two points from four matches .

Historically, Ghana has been a strong contender in the tournament, having won the Africa Cup of Nations four times and finishing as runners-up five times.

However, their current performance puts their qualification for the 2025 tournament at risk. Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the AFCON are now hanging by a thread, and they must win all their remaining qualifiers to secure a spot in the 2025 tournament .
