TaMA inaugurates implementation Committee of Smarts Cities SDGs Program

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has inaugurated a 19-member committee to implement the Ghana Smart Cities Sustainable Development Goals Program.

In addition to the inauguration committee, the Tamale Metro Assembly also signed a participation agreement to govern the transformative program towards achieving its targets concerning roads, schools, and healthcare.

The Northern Regional Economic Planning Officer, Alhaji Inusah Abubakari, swore in the members on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, challenging the committee members to be up to the task in realizing the goals they set out for themselves.

The committee members constitute representatives from the Finance Department, Public Relations Department, Forestry Department, Environmental Health Department, GES, GHS, and Representatives from relevant departments of the Metropolitan Assembly.

Addressing the audience, the Mayor of Tamale, Adam Abu Takoro, underscored the significance of the program, emphasizing the positive impact on society if the implementation process is well executed.

According to the Mayor, the project is aimed at improving educational infrastructure, healthcare delivery, road infrastructure, and economic empowerment. Among others. Therefore, he urged committee members to work assiduously to achieve the benchmark in line with the SDGs.

Ghana Smart Cities SDGs program is led and coordinated by the Ministry of Local Government in partnership with UN-Habitat, supported by the Government of Norway.

The objective of the Smart Cities Sustainable Development Goals Program is to accelerate the achievement of SDGs at the local level through various approaches, including data-driven, urban planning, Citi Participation, and improved service delivery, as well as offer a pathway for cities like Tamale to grow faster.

TaMA is part of 10 Assemblies across the country receiving the piloting of the Smart SDGs Cities Program.
