TAMALE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SHUT DOWN

The Tamale Technical University Hospital has been shut down following expiration of its license to operate and other violations by Health Facilities Regulatory Agencies(HeFRA), an agency mandated to monitor and regulate operations of public and private health facilities in the country.

The close down of the facility follows the intelligence reports received by HeFRA corroborated by its Compliance and Enforcement directorate following a visit to the Hospital on Monday, 3rd November, 2025.

According to the Agency, healthcare provision at the Tamale Technical University Hospital occurs under highly compromised Safety and infection prevention standards, operating with an expired license.

In a statement released by the Acting Registrar of Health Facilities Regulatory agencies(HeFRA), Dr Winfred Korletey Baaii, imposed an administrative fine of Thirty-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 35,000) on TaTU hospital for regulatory violations.

HeFRA is also directing that the facility must take expeditious steps to regularize its licensing status with the Agency, upholding high standards of safety in the provision of health services to its clients, maintaining that the facility remains closed until recommendations meant to address Safety gaps and infection prevention challenges are fully addressed.

HeFRA also expressed commitment to ensuring the safety of the Public through the provision of quality healthcare services by hospitals in th country.
