Traders at the Tamale Central Market including Cold store Owners and Butchers are running losses on their businesses due to a Blackout greeted the Central Business District of the Metropolis.
The power outage which occurred on Thursday, 31st July 2025 around 5:00pm has not been retored, running to almost a week now.
This has since impacted traders negatively as they do not have congenial environment for business any longer, with Cold store Owners having their fish spoiled and Butchers having their meat contaminated due to the protracted power outage at the central Market.
Speaking to the traders, they alleged that the Power outage by NEDCo is deliberate, targeted at destroying their businesses following confiscation of NEDCo Vehicles and alleged assault of its Staff by some youth upon purported instructions from traditional authorities.
The traders pointed out that they should not be punished for crimes they have not committed let alone lose their livelihoods through these circumstances.
They are therefore calling on Authorities especially the hierarchy of NEDCo to as matter of urgency, proactively restore power to the market to enable them go about their business activities, noting that since the blackout several people have been pushed out of business.
