UDS Confers Honorary Doctorate Degree on the Supreme Leader of Dagbon
University for Development Studies has conferred honorary Doctorate degree on the Supreme Leader of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II, celebrating his leadership, peace and unity in Dagbon.
The honorary doctorate conferment on the Ya-Na by UDS is in recognition of his contributions towards expanding the frontiers of the university coupled with his visionary leadership and and peace building efforts, and commitment to social transformation of the Dagbon State.
At a convocation held today at the UDS Dungu campus in Tamale on Saturday, 15th November 2025, the Overlord of Dagbon received the honorary degree, reflecting his outstanding contribution to the development and growth of Dagbon through promoting peace,unity and reconciliation.
Present to witness the conferment were hierarchical traditional authorities of Dagbon including the Paramount Chief of Karaga, and Paramount Chief of Mion. Among other prominent paramount Chiefs of Dagbon.
Also present were key Government Officials including Education Minister, Haruna Iddirisu and some Northern MPs. Religious and Opinion Leaders also attended the momentous occasion.
Addressing the audience, the Vice Chancellor of UDS, Prof. Seidu Alhassan eulogized His Royal Highness of Dagbon, highlighting his role in promoting peace and unity, reconciling rival factions through dialogue, among other initiatives.
“He has been able to turn conflict and division into development.Ladies and Gentlemen, he has done 3 things for us and for the entire community. He has reconciled rival factions promoting forgiveness and dialogue as tools of healing. He resolved local issues and he has urged royals and citizens alike to eschew political interference in Traditional matters”.
The Vice Chancellor also lauded Ya-Na for his commitment towards the university following a donation of 500 acres of land for establishment of UDS campus in Yendi.
“Through his efforts, Dagbon has risen again, Dagbon has become more United, stable, and forward looking. He is so much committed to peace and youth empowerment. As a university community he has been able to donate 500 acres of land to establish a campus in Yendi. He donated a facility for us to start academy work immediately after the eastern corridor contractor left site”.
