The king and overlord of Dagbon on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, summoned a cross-section of Religious clerics in Tamale to the Gbewaa Palace to have a final word with them on the trend of violent preachings flooding the airwaves in the kingdom.
The King, who addressed the Islamic scholars and Preachers directly, reminded them of their core mandate of calling the populace to salvation for a better hereafter and questioned why they had deviated from that mandate but resorted to verbal attacks on one another’s personalities and doctrines.
The King also admonished the scholars to stay away from personal attacks on one another and concentrate on using smoothen words to call people to Islam.
On his part, the Paramount Chief of the Kuga Traditional area and head of customs and traditions of the Dagbon Kingdom, Naa Yaba Kuga Naa Abdulai Adam urged the Islamic clerics to desist from attacking the customary and traditional practices of Dagbon because the inhabitants are Dagombas and not Arabs, adding that the Arabs they imitate about the Islamic religion have their own customs and practices different from the Islamic Practices. Hence, no need to attack Dagbon culture during their preachings.
He also urged preachers against naming and condemning Dagbon deities in their preachings and called on them to unite for a better Dagbon, warning that any preacher who defies the orders will be made to face the full rigors of the laws of the land in line with Dagbon customs and traditions.
The Northern regional minister Hon. Adolf Ali Nburidiba pleaded on behalf of the clerics for forgiveness from the Ya-Na, pointing out that the Preachers have admitted their guilt and will never repeat the same.
