Dalun- N/R, March 26, 2025
The Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, alongside his deputy and other key officials, on Tuesday, March 25, paid a courtesy visit to the Paramount Chief of the Dalun Traditional Area, Dalun-Lana Naa Mustapha Sanah, at the Yagri Palace in Dalun, Northern Region.
The visit was a crucial step in addressing the long-standing water crisis affecting Tamale, Yendi, and Damongo, a situation that has left thousands of residents struggling for clean drinking water.
In his remarks, Hon. Mutawakilu reassured the chief of GWCL’s commitment to resolving the crisis, outlining bold measures his outfit is taking to ensure a sustainable and reliable water supply. He acknowledged the frustration of residents and pledged that his leadership is fully committed to finding a lasting solution.
The Dalun-Lana, expressing deep concern over the dire situation, emphasized that the crisis is not just an issue for the affected towns but also a major concern for the Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, and the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jawu Soale.
For years, Tamale and its surrounding communities have endured severe water shortages, despite the fact that GWCL draws, treats, and distributes water from the White Volta through Nawunni, a suburb of Dalun. The scarcity has forced residents and even animals to rely on unwholesome water sources, posing serious health risks.
The Dalun-Lana urged GWCL to work tirelessly to restore regular water supply, describing the crisis as “shameful” and a major setback to development in the region. He, however, expressed confidence in the MD’s leadership and wished him success in this all-important mission to bring relief to the people.
As the GWCL embarks on this ambitious journey to solve the water crisis, residents remain hopeful that this visit marks the beginning of a new era, one where every home has access to clean and safe water.
