President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate release of GH₵300 million from the Contingency Fund to finance urgent flood relief and mitigation efforts following widespread flooding caused by hours of heavy rainfall in parts of Accra and other communities in southern Ghana.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the intervention forms part of the government’s emergency response to support affected individuals and reduce the impact of future flooding.

Out of the total amount, GH₵150 million has been earmarked for immediate relief assistance to flood victims and affected communities across the southern sector of the country. The remaining GH₵150 million will be invested in flood mitigation measures aimed at reducing the occurrence and severity of flooding.

The President has also directed the deployment of personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to work alongside the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security agencies in ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Mahama undertook an aerial assessment of the flooded areas to evaluate the extent of the devastation. Following the inspection, he announced a series of measures intended to protect residents, strengthen emergency response efforts, and prevent further flooding.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
