President Mahama Releases GH₵300 Million for Flood Relief and Mitigation

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate release of GH₵300 million from the Contingency Fund to finance urgent flood relief and mitigation efforts following widespread flooding caused by hours of heavy rainfall in parts of Accra and other communities in southern Ghana.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the intervention forms part of the government’s emergency response to support affected individuals and reduce the impact of future flooding.

Out of the total amount, GH₵150 million has been earmarked for immediate relief assistance to flood victims and affected communities across the southern sector of the country. The remaining GH₵150 million will be invested in flood mitigation measures aimed at reducing the occurrence and severity of flooding.

The President has also directed the deployment of personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to work alongside the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security agencies in ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Mahama undertook an aerial assessment of the flooded areas to evaluate the extent of the devastation. Following the inspection, he announced a series of measures intended to protect residents, strengthen emergency response efforts, and prevent further flooding.

The 2028 presidential flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed heartfelt sympathy to thousands of Ghanaians affected by the recent floods that have displaced families, destroyed properties, and claimed lives in parts of the country.

In a message shared on his official Facebook page on Monday morning, Dr. Bawumia said his thoughts and prayers were with all those impacted by the devastating floods, particularly families who have lost loved ones and those forced to abandon their homes due to the disaster.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the thousands of our people affected by the floods. My deepest sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones, properties, and those who have been forced out of their homes,” he wrote.

Dr. Bawumia urged citizens in affected communities to strictly comply with all directives issued by the Government and to cooperate fully with institutions responsible for managing the emergency situation. According to him, adherence to official safety measures is crucial in protecting lives and ensuring an effective response.

He also called on the emergency services and all relevant state agencies to intensify their efforts to reach vulnerable communities and provide timely assistance to those in need.

“I urge the emergency services and all relevant authorities to do everything possible to reach those in need and assist them,” he stated.

Emphasizing the importance of national solidarity during difficult times, Dr. Bawumia encouraged Ghanaians to support one another as the country works to recover from the disaster.

“We will get through this difficult time by caring for one another,” he added.

He concluded his message with a prayer for the nation, saying, “May God bless our homeland Ghana.”

The flooding has affected several communities across the country, prompting calls for coordinated relief efforts and renewed attention to flood prevention and disaster preparedness.

‎Broadcast journalist Inusah Hamza Lansah has responded to critics following his decision to leave Sagani TV and join Tolon Multimedia, insisting that he has no regrets about the move despite facing backlash from some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).



‎In a Facebook post shared days after announcing his departure from Sagani TV, Lansah made it clear that he remains unfazed by the criticism surrounding his career decision.

‎”I have no intention of paying attention to those criticizing my decision to join Tolon Multimedia. My decision is mine to make, and I’m proud of it,” he wrote.



‎The journalist revealed that he has received overwhelming support from within the NDC, stating that about 20 Members of Parliament and several prominent party figures have personally congratulated him on his new role.

‎According to him, the encouragement he has received from respected personalities far outweighs the negative comments from a few critics.

‎”That encouragement means far more than the negativity from a few critics,” he added.

‎Lansah also emphasized that while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, he remains committed to his professional responsibilities and is focused on the opportunities ahead.



‎He concluded his message with the Dagbani phrase, “Dibi nyema,” a positive expression often used to wish someone well or signify optimism.

‎His post has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with supporters applauding his confidence and others continuing to question his decision to leave Sagani TV. Despite the debate, Lansah’s latest statement suggests he is determined to move forward and concentrate on the next chapter of his broadcasting career.

Austrian-Based Footballer Zakari Mutawakil Gives Back to Kalpohin SHS‎

‎Former SK PILLERSEETAL player and Kalpohin Senior High School alumnus, Zakari Mutawakil Abukari, has returned to his alma mater to inspire students and support the school’s sporting development.



‎Zakari, who completed his secondary education at Kalpohin SHS in 2006 and served as the school’s Sports Prefect, paid a special visit to the school on Thursday in the company of some of his senior colleagues, year group members, and his wife as part of efforts to give back to the institution that played a significant role in shaping his future.



‎Addressing a gathering of students and staff, Zakari reflected on his journey from the classrooms and sports fields of Kalpohin SHS to pursuing a football career abroad. He encouraged the students to remain focused on their dreams, emphasizing the values of hard work, discipline, and perseverance.



‎”I have returned to give back to the community because my journey began here. I feel a strong obligation to pay homage to this great institution and demonstrate my commitment to its students. Never lose hope; continue striving for excellence, and you will eventually achieve the best results,” he advised.



‎As part of his contribution, Zakari donated brand-new footballs, sets of jerseys, stockings, and other sporting equipment to support and enhance sporting activities in the school. The donation was warmly received by the school authorities and students, who expressed gratitude for his generosity and commitment to the development of sports at Kalpohin SHS.
